According to recent data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), 50 immigrant entrepreneurs were granted permanent residence in Canada through the Start-Up Visa program in January 2023. This is close to the number in January 2022, which was 55.
In January, Ontario welcomed 20 immigrant entrepreneurs, British Columbia accepted 15, Alberta ten, and Manitoba received five entrepreneurs through the SUV program.
Under the SUV program, candidates can first obtain a work permit supported by their designated Canadian investor before their permanent residence application is processed. The application for permanent residence through the SUV program is estimated to take 33 months.
Start-up Visa Program eligibility requirements
You have to meet all 4 eligibility requirements for the Start-up Visa Program as well as the requirements for getting into Canada in order to be qualified.
To be eligible for the Start-up Visa program, you must:
- have a qualified business
- have a recommendation letter from the designated organization
- meet the language requirements and
- before you start making money from your business, you should have sufficient funds to move to Canada and support yourself.
