Sudbury considered 27 applications under the RNIP on March 29, 2023, the City of Greater Sudbury held a new round of invitations for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). In this round, Sudbury considered 27 candidates. The lowest score of these draws was 270 points, 25 points more than in the previous draw. Five of these candidates were drawn through the Francophone Stream.

Last year, in total, 154 applicants were invited. Sudbury has recommended at least 276 individuals under the RNIP since the program’s launch. So far, the city has considered 76 candidates in 2023.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a program driven by the local community. By offering a path to permanent residency for highly skilled foreign workers who want to settle and work in one of the participating communities, it aims to expand the advantages of economic immigration to smaller communities.

The Canadian government works with small, remote communities in Ontario, Western Canada, and the three territories to attract and keep foreign workers through the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP).

Communities in RNIP

This pilot is community-driven, which means the communities will assess potential candidates and recommend those who best meet their economic needs, have a genuine employment opportunity that satisfies their community requirements, and aim to remain in the community to IRCC for a final decision.
