IRCC accepts applications for the new Rural and Francophone Immigration Pilots

Immigration Pilots

On May 21, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) opened the application process for the new Rural and Francophone Immigration Pilots. The initiative encourages economic development organizations to apply, representing their communities and demonstrating how immigration can boost their local economies. Up to 15 communities will be selected based on economic need, services for newcomers, and collaboration capabilities. The pilots aim to process up to 5,500 permanent resident applications annually, addressing economic and demographic challenges in rural and Francophone minority communities.

Rural and Francophone minority populations are critical to both Canada’s future economic growth and linguistic survival. However, these areas face distinct economic and demographic concerns. That is why the Canadian government will start two new pilot programs this fall to attract the talented professionals need to strengthen their businesses and communities.

The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, kicked off the community application process for the Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot. Interested economic development groups across Canada are encouraged to apply for one or both of the pilots. These groups will submit an application on behalf of their communities, showing their eligibility and how immigration will benefit their local economies.

The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship stated:

“Promoting growth and vitality in rural and Francophone minority communities is crucial to our national identity, and we recognize the unique economic, linguistic, and cultural contributions that newcomers bring to these areas. That is why we are introducing these new pilots and inviting rural and Francophone minority communities outside Quebec to apply. I look forward to working together to address the diverse needs of these communities across Canada.”
