Prince Edward Island invited 69 skilled candidates in a new draw

Prince Edward Island

On December 1, 2022, Prince Edward Island conducted a new invitation round in the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams and invited 69 candidates under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). As in November, PEI will likely hold two draws in December too.

The PEI PNP issued 1,955 invitations in 2020 and 1,933 invitations in 2021. PEI invited 1,720 candidates this year, including 1,602 candidates under the Labour Impact and Express Entry categories and 118 business candidates. According to the schedule, the next PEI PNP draw will occur on December 15, 2022.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was established in 2001 with the goal of bringing and keeping in the province more immigrants who could help with the province’s economic and labor market demands as well as promote economic growth.

The PEI PNP attracts immigrants who are likely to settle on the island and have the education, experience, and skills needed. The province has been able to welcome more immigrants since the PNP was established.

In Canada, PEI has the highest rate of immigration per citizen. Prior to the pandemic, its immigration rate was 1.6%, compared to the national average of 0.9%. As a percentage of its total population, the province has Canada’s largest newcomer intake.

Prince Edward Island Express Entry Stream

In order to determine candidates for a provincial nomination in PEI’s Express Entry category, candidates may already be in the federal Express Entry Pool.

Such a nomination increases a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score by 600 points and essentially ensures that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for immigration to Canada.

Two factors to Canadian permanent residency are available under the PEI Express Entry Category, one for those with a work offer and one for those without.

Prince Edward Island Labour Impact Category

If you are a skilled worker or an international graduate with the knowledge and expertise needed in PEI’s job market, you should apply for immigration under this category.

There are streams that are involved. As follows:

1) Skilled Worker Stream

If a skilled worker meets the requirements of this employer-driven stream and has a job offer in Prince Edward Island, they may be nominated for Canadian permanent residency.

  • a job offer for a full-time position in a job with TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification from a company in Prince Edward Island (NOC).
  • completion of post-secondary education, with a formal education requirement of at least 14 years.
  • between the ages of 21 and 55.
  • a minimum of two years of recent, full-time job experience
  • and sufficient command of either English or French to hold the position being offered.
  • enough money for the settlement.
  • expressed a desire to relocate to Prince Edward Island.

2) Critical Worker Stream

This category is available to foreign workers already residing in PEI who hold employment in particularly critical-demand occupations and is intended to address labor shortages. The basic requirements for nomination are:

  • a full-time job offer in one of the following professions from a Prince Edward Island company:
  • driving a truck.
  • a member of the customer service team.
  • Laborer.
  • serving food and beverages.
  • Housekeeping employee.
  • six months of work experience with the employer in Prince Edward Island.
  • present-day work authorization for Canada.
  • a minimum of 12 years of formal education and high school graduation.
  • between the ages of 21 and 55.
  • a minimum of two years of recent, full-time job experience
  • Show basic knowledge of either the French or English languages.
  • enough funds for the settlement.
