New Brunswick increased the wages in Atlantic Canada

New Brunswick increased the wages in Atlantic Canada on January 30, 2023, the New Brunswick Government increased the minimum wage to $14.75 per hour, which will be in effect on April 1, 2023. The current minimum wage in the province is $13.75 per hour. This is the third $1 per-hour increase to the minimum wage over the last 12 months. 

 

In 2022, the province temporarily suspended indexing to ensure minimum wage earners receive a livable salary and improve the quality of life for 19,000 such workers (representing 5.7% of workers in the province).

 

Honourable Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Trevor Holder Said:

In terms of New Brunswick’s minimum wage, “our government has made great progress, from indexing adjustments to the consumer price index to making a necessary course correction in 2022 to make us more competitive and raise the standard of living,”

Manufacturing, Public Administration in Canada, and Real Estate and Rental and Leasing are the top three industries by total employment, and in 2022, the unemployment rate in the entire province was 8.8%.
