IRCC approved nearly 600,000 applications under the CUAET as of March 21, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET).
According to the latest update, between January 1, 2022, and March 19, 2023, 25,518 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and 165,452 Ukrainians reached by air. Between March 17, 2022, and March 16, 2023, IRCC received 943,730 applications under the CUAET. In total, IRCC has approved 616,429 applications from Ukrainian nationals.
943,730 Ukrainians submitted CUAET applications as of March 16 of this year, and 616,429 had been approved. Only 190,970, however, have made it to Canada. CUAET is primarily a visiting visa, Ukrainians may simultaneously and for no fee submit an application for an open work permit. Participants with an open work permit may work for any Canadian employer.
Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, the Honorable Sean Fraser, announced:
That the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel will be extended by the Canadian government (CUAET), which means:
- Ukrainians and their family members can submit a free CUAET visa application overseas until July 15, 2023;
- Travel to Canada under the special measures will be allowed up to March 31, 2024, for individuals with a CUAET visa;
- Holders of CUAETs who are already in Canada will have until March 31, 2024, at no fee, to extend or adjust their temporary status.
Who can apply for CUAET?
Ukrainian nationals, as well as their family members, such as their spouse, common-law partner, children, and children of their children, as well as children of a dependent child of a Ukrainian nation, can apply for CUAET.
