Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots

On June 16, 2023, the Government of Canada announced new instructions for assessing new and pending applications under the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots. 

On April 30, 2023, the Government amended the Ministerial Instructions:

  • reducing the work experience requirement from 24 to 12 months
  • clarifying that employers on the job offer must not be businesses, 
  • streamlining the application process for gaining experience category (Category A)
  • Currently, work authorized under the Immigration and Refugees Protection Regulations will be counted as work experience.

 

About the Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots

The Home Support Worker and Home Child Care Provider Pilot programs help caregivers and their families to get permanent residence in Canada. You may apply for permanent residence in Canada if you have a job offer for a caregiver’s position there or if you have previous carer work experience there. 

Home Child Care Provider Pilot: Caring for young children under the age of 18 is the focus of the Home Child Care Provider Pilot. The applicable NOC is 4411; it is vital for the applicant to confirm that they meet the minimum criteria by checking the employment and educational requirements under this NOC.

Home Support Worker Pilot: The Home Support Worker Pilot is intended for people who care for elderly people, people with disabilities, and recuperating patients. The applicable NOC is 4412; it is essential for the applicant to confirm that they meet the minimum criteria by checking the employment and educational requirements under this NOC.
