Canada invited new candidates under the IEC season of invitations 2023 over the last week, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC).
From February 11 to February 17, Canada invited 7,772 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit.
As of February 17, there were 15,205 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation.

In 2023, Canada issued 51,671 ITAs under the IEC Program.
International Experience Canada
Young foreigners can travel and work in Canada for up to two years through International Experience Canada (IEC).
Three separate employment and travel opportunities are available:
- Working Holiday
- Young Professionals
- International Co-op (Internship)
It’s a government initiative designed to help young foreigners to:
- get valuable work experience internationally.
- improve your French and English language skills.
- Work in Canada to fund your dream trip.

IEC Working Holiday Category
Invitees to the working holiday programs are issued an open work visa that enables them to work for almost any Canadian employer.
If you come from a country that qualifies and;
- without even a job offer.
- Would like to work for a number of Canadian companies.
- Would like to work in many different fields and have enough money for travel.
IEC Young Professionals Category
When you receive an employment offer from a Canadian company, you may be qualified for the Young Professionals IEC category (consistent with your career profession). On this IEC Employer-Specific Work Permit, you must remain employed by the same organization.
IEC International Co-op (Internship) Category
An employer-specific work visa is granted in the international co-op (internship) category. If any of the following applies to you if you:
- are a post-secondary student who has been given the opportunity to work or intern in Canada;
- will complete this internship or job placement to complete your education; and.
- will continue to work in Canada for the same employer at the same location.
