lululemon’s growth in Vancouver

lululemon, a Canadian company with British Columbia roots, has employed thousands of Canadians and brought skilled workers from abroad to the province, driving innovation in Canada.

The federal and provincial governments recognized Lululemon’s expansion project as a significant investment under the Canada-British Columbia Immigration Agreement, allowing the company to welcome international talent in high-skilled occupations.

This expansion includes growing store support and global training centers, creating employment growth and knowledge transfer over the next few years. Last year, lululemon employed about 9,000 workers in Canada.

The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Stated

“Lululemon is a great example of Canadian success. Lululemon has established itself as a symbol of Canadian artisanship and entrepreneurial spirit as a company that stands for innovation, quality, and a rigid commitment to perfection. Our government will continue with an immigration strategy that makes sure companies like Lululemon can attract the talent they need to drive economic growth in Canada even as they maintain their global headquarters there and grow. Let’s recognize the significance of supporting our businesses through immigration and investing in the talent of our country since it is only through this synergy that we can ensure a prosperous future for everyone”

The Honourable Anne Kang, British Columbia Minister of Municipal Affairs stated:

“We support Lululemon to grow their footprint in Vancouver and increase the diversity of their employees. Their investment will help the economy and provide British Columbians with opportunities to work with talented individuals from across the world in well-paying jobs.”

About the Lululemon

An international sportswear retailer with its main office in British Columbia and US incorporation in Delaware is known as Lululemon Athletica. It was founded in 1998 to sell yoga pants and other yoga apparel, but it has since grown to also sell athletic wear, lifestyle clothing, accessories, and personal care items. The business sells both online and at 574 stores across the globe.

Lululemon to hire foreign workers without LMIA

On February 28, 2023, the Government of Canada recognized Lululemon as a significant investment project in British Columbia. The company will benefit from a facilitative immigration measure under the Canada-British Columbia Immigration Agreement and hire foreign workers for various high-skilled occupations without applying for a labor market impact assessment (LMIA).

The Temporary Workers Annex of the Agreement grants British Columbia the authority to specify noteworthy investment enterprises that can be exempted from undergoing an LMIA process. Employment and Social Development Canada and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada then assess the project to determine if it meets the criteria. Click here to read the complete details
