candidates under the AAIP

Alberta invited new candidates under the AAIP on March 14, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published a new update regarding the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). As of March 14, 2023, there were around 1,490 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 450 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool.

In addition, on March 9, 2023, Alberta held a new invitation round in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 134 Notifications of Interest (NOI) with a minimum score of 301. In 2023, the province invited 434 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry and issued 1,292 nomination certificates.

AAIP Express Entry Draws 2023

The federal Express Entry pool’s candidates are reviewed regularly by the AAIP. The AAIP draws individuals from a candidate pool and asks them to submit a completed application to the AAIP based on the information regarding their profile that is easily accessible in the portal.

The best alternative path to the federal Express Entry System is through the Alberta-Express Entry stream. In certain draws, the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score threshold for this PNP stream is as low as only 300 points.

Details of Alberta Express Entry Draws 2023 before March 14, 2023, can be found in the table below:

Date Number of Notification of Interest letters sent CRS score of lowest-ranked candidate who received NOI

Alberta Streams for Workers

For foreign workers who are living in Alberta and working there or plan to live and work here, the AAIP provides 3 streams:

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream
  • Alberta Express Entry Stream
  • Rural Renewal Stream

Alberta Opportunity Stream

Temporary foreign workers who are already working full-time in Alberta and have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation are eligible for the Alberta Opportunity Stream. Applicants must either hold a valid LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) exemption work permit or have a positive LMIA result.

Also, candidates must meet minimum eligibility criteria for the type of residency and work permit, occupation, language, education, a job offer from Alberta, and work experience.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

A limited number of qualified applicants may be recommended by Alberta through the Express Entry system of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada under the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Alberta Express Entry General stream: The government may ask applicants to submit applications if they demonstrate strong ties to Alberta or if they can support its priorities for economic development and diversification.

Accelerated Tech Pathway: Candidates may be selected for expedited processing under the Alberta Express Entry Stream if they are hired by, or have a job offer from, an Alberta-based tech industry employer in an eligible tech occupation.

Rural Renewal Stream

Through a community-driven approach that addresses local economic development needs and encourages community growth, the Rural Renewal Stream helps rural Alberta attract and keep newcomers. The Rural Renewal Stream gives rural areas the ability to attract and keep foreigners who want to live, work, and settle in their regions.
