The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) was established in 2001 with the goal of bringing and keeping in the province more immigrants who could help with the province’s economic and labor market demands as well as promote economic growth.

The PEI PNP draws immigrants who are likely to settle on the island and have the education, training, and skills needed. The province has been able to welcome more immigrants since the PNP was implemented.

In Canada, PEI has the highest rate of immigration per resident. Prior to the pandemic, its immigration rate was 1.6%, compared to the national average of 0.9%. As a percentage of its total population, the province has Canada’s largest newcomer intake.

Since 2015, the province has welcomed about 2,000 new immigrants annually, and it is anticipated that this number will continue to rise. Less than 200 new immigrants would enter the province annually before the PNP was introduced.

Since the launch of the PNP in 2001 and the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) in 2017, the province has been drawing more immigrants. Employers in the Atlantic provinces of Canada are permitted under the AIP to hire foreign workers for open positions that they were unable to fill locally. The Atlantic provinces of Canada consist of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, and Newfoundland & Labrador.

The PEI PNP Express Entry category is the only improved category available. Additionally, it contains two main categories: business impact and labour impact.
