Canada’s new pathway for Healthcare Workers
There is good news for healthcare workers who want to move to Canada! The Canadian government has recently announced an improved pathway for healthcare workers to obtain permanent residency.
This new pathway will make it easier for healthcare workers with the skills and experience that are in high demand in Canada to obtain permanent residency. It will also help to address the current shortage of healthcare workers in Canada.
Workers are in limited supply across various businesses, including the health sector, as a result of the pandemic. But in order to gain high-caliber positions in healthcare, health professionals with overseas education frequently encounter difficulties in having their qualifications recognized in Canada. The Government of Canada is investing in initiatives that will assist talented new immigrants in using their education and talents sooner in order to give this goal top priority.
Carla Qualtrough, minister of employment, workforce development, and disability inclusion, announced financing for nine initiatives under the program for the recognition of foreign credentials. This investment will enhance the acceptance of international credentials and assist qualified immigrants in acquiring Canadian job experience in the healthcare industry. Along with officials from the Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators, McGill University’s School of Physical & Occupational
Therapy, and the Halton Multicultural Council (HMC) Connections, Minister Qualtrough made the announcement.

The Career Accelerator for Foreign Trained Health Professionals in the COVID Environment project of HMC Connections is receiving financing. The Council will be able to help highly qualified healthcare professionals with overseas training gain Canadian work experience through this investment, with an emphasis on helping them find long-term sustainable employment in their field of study. The current pandemic and future demand for the health and social service sectors will be reduced as a result of this.
Finally, funding is being provided for the Language Proficiency Requirements for Safe Nursing Practice in Canada project run by the Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators. The Council will evaluate, update, and validate the benchmarks for acceptable English and French language ability level in the licensing and registration of internationally educated nurses in Canada with the use of this investment.
