The Canadian Government Invited 4,000 Francophone Candidates Through Express Entry French Language Proficiency Draw

April 30, 2026

French language proficiency draw

French language proficiency draw programs have continued to be a significant part of the immigration strategy for Canada as it increases its resolve to bring in French-speaking immigrants via the Express Entry program. As per the latest immigration update by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a massive Express Entry draw targeting individuals with high levels of French language proficiency was held.

This new draw reflects Canada’s sustained efforts to promote its Francophone population outside Quebec, along with meeting its labor requirements. On April 29, 2026, IRCC conducted the fifth French-language proficiency Express Entry draw of the year, resulting in the issuance of 4,000 Invitations to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency.

IRCC Conducted a New Francophone Express Entry Draw

Round #414 is the name of the most recent Express Entry draw, specifically the French language proficiency draw under the Express Entry program. This particular draw had a minimum score of 400 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The cut-off points of the minimum CRS score were 19 points lower than the previous French language proficiency draw conducted previously.

According to IRCC, the tie-breaking rule for the French language proficiency draw will be based on April 07, 2026, at 20:13:59 UTC. Invitations to apply would be issued to those candidates whose profile was submitted by this date and satisfied the CRS minimum points criterion.

It is clear that with such measures taken by the Canadian government, the country intends to attract highly skilled immigrants speaking French fluently. It shows that Canada aims not only to promote a multicultural society and economic development but also strengthen its bilingual community.

Canada Continues to Prioritize French-Speaking Immigration

Immigration into Canada as part of its comprehensive immigration policy has seen the promotion of Francophone immigration beyond the Quebec region. This has played a vital role in the creation of bilingual communities, improvement of the labor market, and economic growth within various Canadian regions.

Through the category-based Express Entry draws, which include the latest French language proficiency draw conducted by Canada, numerous doors have been opened for those immigrants who speak fluent French. The French language proficiency draw offers great opportunities for those who may not have extremely high CRS scores but speak French fluently.

The French language proficiency draw conducted recently proves that there are still plenty of opportunities for French-speaking immigrants within the immigration selection rounds using Express Entry in 2026.

Express Entry Pool Remains Highly Active in 2026

As of April 26, 2026, there have been 234,452 Express Entry profiles registered in the pool. Canada has issued 71,627 ITAs via 26 Express Entry draws this year, which clearly proves how aggressive the immigration policy of the country is.

Canada’s immigration program still remains one of the best options for skilled individuals across the globe. In this regard, regular Express Entry draws, category-based selection rounds, and French language proficiency draws give qualified candidates an opportunity to immigrate to Canada and acquire the status of permanent residents.

Skilled French-speaking applicants benefit greatly from this immigration strategy. They can get extra CRS points and, at the same time, participate in French immigration draws. This latest French language proficiency round once again demonstrates the government’s intention to attract many skilled workers who speak French in 2026.

Why Are French Language Skills Becoming More Valuable?

French fluency is increasingly becoming a crucial factor in Canada’s immigration process. For instance, skilled workers that demonstrate fluency in French may enjoy better chances for immigration through various programs, including the increasing trend towards category draws, such as the French language proficiency draw under the Express Entry program.

In an effort to encourage more francophones to settle in other regions outside Quebec, Canada has been actively trying to boost its population of French speakers. To achieve this, several immigration routes have been made favorable to applicants who score high marks in their French language proficiency tests. The latest French language proficiency draw reiterated Canada’s commitment to attracting skilled francophone immigrants.

A considerable number of candidates may improve their eligibility for an Invitation to Apply by upgrading their French language skills. Applicants that fall within the category of a French language proficiency draw may enjoy greater prospects for obtaining Canadian permanent residency.

Opportunities for Skilled Workers Planning to Immigrate to Canada

The last express entry draw gives an encouraging indication to skilled workers across the world about their immigration to Canada. As 4,000 invites have been issued through this draw, Canada will continue accepting skilled immigrants to make a contribution towards future development of the country via French language proficiency draws.

Those skilled immigrants who are interested in immigrating to Canada should ensure that their CRS score remains high and that they maintain an updated Express Entry profile. The current trend in Canada for immigration in 2026 suggests that French speaking people should take full advantage of this opportunity because the Canadian government is giving priority to French language proficiency.

It is expected that skilled immigrants will continue receiving invitations for permanent residency under various draws including French language proficiency through Express Entry draws conducted by Canada throughout the year.
